Purchasing the papers is done the same way, but you now get ONE file containing the question, score insert AND answers
Important: The audio files are now configured to play each excerpt 4 times, with the pauses included. Each audio file now only needs to be clicked ONCE for each question. If in doubt, see the instructions on the practice papers page.

Modifications to ME001 & ME003

To all students: We have taken much pains in keeping all our resources accurate to the new 2025 syllabus. ME001 has undergone extensive review and changes, and the updated version is now available on our Practice Paper page! ME003 is now undergoing review as well, and will be available soon. All students who have previously purchased ME001 from us would have received their updated paper free-of-charge.

Applications for MEP centres open today!

All parents of 2023 sec 1 students take note:
If your child is not in an MEP school, (i.e. ACS(indep), MGS, SNGS, TJC, RGS, RI, TKGS, Crescent or DHS), he/she still has an opportunity to take the Music Elective Programme at an MEP centre.
There are only TWO MEP centres this year: ACS (indep) (Classes held on Thursdays) and Dunman High (Classes held on Mondays).
To apply, you must video your child performing TWO contrasting pieces on his/her instrument. The total length of the performance video should not exceed 5 mins. Please capture your child and the instrument completely in the video frame.
Submit at this link https://form.gov.sg/633fc5ea71c61100126ae483 before 16th January 2023.
Subsequently, he/she will have to attend an e-listening test on 26th January 2023 in his/her own school.
If shortlisted, there will be interviews conducted from mid February 2023.

Traditional Jazz. It is important to see that the trombone and clarinets are improvising countermelodies around the main melody by the trumpet. This is the main thing to look out for when we listen to Traditional Jazz pieces.

The score is taken from Dvorak: Symphony no. 7 in D minor, 4th Movement. You should note:
1. Function of the winds: Melody played by Clarinet I and Horn I, doubled by Cello at high register. This doubling is not seen in Classical period.
2. Clear differentiation between Cello and double bass line. (you won't see this before Beethoven)
3. Viola and violin play lower than Cello for the first four bars.
4. Three trombones. (you only have this from Beethoven symphony no. 9 and later)
Hence from just looking at the score, you know for sure that this should be late romantic period.

Ordinary level music, Music Elective Programme (MEP) and Enhanced Music Programme(EMP)

Any student in Singapore who is part of the above-mentioned programmes will have to do paper 1, which tests the application of musical knowledge through listening. There will be six pieces of music played to the candidate, who will have to answer questions about each piece. There is no way of knowing beforehand which pieces would be played, hence you cannot just cram study your notes like the other content subjects. The only way to get better is to practice answering technique, which is the specialisation of Moritz and Marc Music. For this, check out our practice papers.
We have study notes that isolate the main points of every music genre that is tested. These can be used when you attempt the papers. Check them out here.
